City Attorney Divisions

The West Jordan City Attorney’s Office provides authoritative legal advice to the City and its officials, defends the City’s legal rights, operations and interests, and effectively prosecutes those who violate the law. The City Attorney’s Office performs legal services on behalf of the City of West Jordan. It does not represent or provide legal advice to individual citizens or businesses.

Civil Law

Civil attorneys advise the City Council, City Manager and staff in all areas of municipal civil law. These functions include: (a) drafting and reviewing contracts; (b) advising the City on all aspects of land-use law, civil rights, construction law, real estate and employment law; (c) drafting and reviewing municipal and State legislation; (d) advising on insurance and risk management issues; (e) defending and prosecuting suits to protect the City’s and its employee’s legal rights and interests; (f) managing outside legal counsel; and (g) managing or engaging in appellate advocacy before all State and Federal courts.

Criminal Law

The City Prosecutors screen, charge and prosecute misdemeanors, including some class “A” crimes, and handle appeals from the Justice Court to the District Court. In addition, they advise the Police Department regarding warrants, investigations, and other criminal matters; and manage the City’s domestic violence program.
