West Jordan Police Recognized for Program Providing Free Car Light Repairs

“In appreciation for your outstanding service beyond the ordinary call of duty…” The NAACP presented West Jordan’s Police Sgt. Brian Schaaf with the First Responders Appreciation Award at the 42nd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Memorial Celebration in January.
The Lights On! program has helped over 200 West Jordan drivers with free headlight or taillight repairs since 2024.
Having a burned-out headlight or taillight is enough to be pulled over. But instead of writing a ticket, a West Jordan officer can give the driver a voucher for a free repair, worth up to $250 (at a participating repair shop).
“It’s a win/win situation,” Schaaf said. “Our officers can reach out to the community and have a positive encounter. The driver gets a safer car and a fixed light. Roads are safer. Everyone benefits from a positive experience.”
The Lights On! program is available in 23 other states and over 170 police departments nationwide. West Jordan Police Department is the first in Utah to partner with this program.
Congratulations to Sgt. Schaaf and thank you for bringing some extra light to West Jordan!
