Wheels Park Sticks the Landing: Wins Outstanding Facility Award

Utah Recreation and Parks Association (URPA) supports 2,000 parks across Utah. At their annual conference West Jordan’s Wheels Park competed against 100 other parks for the 2026 Outstanding Facility Award. Whether it was our pump track or quarter pipes that put us in first place, or maybe the former copper-mine dump-truck bed, or 12-foot tires, we are proud to bring home this award.
West Jordan City, with COR Athlete and Nate Wessel, used a combination of new, donated and reclaimed materials to create a park for all wheels, all abilities and all ages.
“This recognition is the culmination of countless hours of careful thought, innovative design and dedicated hard work by so many hands to bring Wheels Park to life,” Cory Fralick, Public Services Director, said.
“We are incredibly grateful for our exceptional partners—Rio Tinto, the Utah Office of Outdoor Recreation, COR Park and the many other organizations and individuals—who believed in this vision and helped make it a reality.”
URPA Assistant Executive Director McKell Christensen applauded West Jordan Parks and Rec employees for their exceptional effort for the community. “They’re not just cutting grass and unlocking facilities,” Christensen said. “They’re building spaces that support health and wellness.”
Kevin Schmidt, President of the URPA, sees the Wheels Park full of riders every weekend. “It’s full of people, not just one demographic; there’s all age groups, all levels of ability,” Schmidt said. “It’s really exciting to see that kind of facility in the city, not only benefiting city residents but becoming a major regional draw for this county.”
Even if you don’t want to have wheels under your own feet, there is something for you to do. Hang out under one of the covered pavilions, or one of the many young and growing shade trees. Or, watch the wheels shred the course from one of the observation decks. You can also be active on your feet by taking a stroll around the outside on the perimeter course.
Congratulations to Public Services and Cory Fralick and all our partners for all your hard work!
“We are excited to continue enhancing and elevating this outstanding facility for years to come,” Fralick said, “because the best is yet to come for Wheels Park and our community!”
