An Update on Fireworks in West Jordan:

A statewide fireworks ban is now in effect after today’s emergency order from the Governor.
This means all fireworks are prohibited in West Jordan through the independence day holiday.
Professional displays, including West Jordan’s official July 4 fireworks show will happen as scheduled.
The state will reassess conditions before the pioneer day holiday.

Fireworks are a fun part of summer, but Utah’s dry conditions make safety more important than ever. Here’s what you need to know to celebrate responsibly in West Jordan.

Where Fireworks Restrictions Apply:

To reduce wildfire risk, fireworks are prohibited in:

• Within 200 feet of the Jordan River Parkway
• Within 200 feet of canals, creeks, and washes
• City parks (except permitted professional shows)
• All areas west of Bacchus Hwy/SR‑111
• Brush-covered or wildlife areas, including ravines
• Any closed or restricted area

Each year, the City Fire Marshal reviews these zones with the West Jordan City Council. The updated fireworks restriction map is posted online and can be found here: Fireworks – Fire Department.

Cities in Utah cannot legally ban fireworks, but they can impose strict restrictions like the ones above to help protect residents and reduce fire danger.

Reporting Illegal Fireworks

Illegal fireworks and illegal use can be reported by calling the non emergency line: 801-840-4000, but response can be challenging. Firefighters and Police Crews will be out in full-force and responding to calls in priority.

The best thing residents can do is make responsible choices:
• Know what’s legal
• Follow restricted-area rules
• Consider wind, dryness, and surroundings before lighting anything

Being cautious helps reduce preventable fires and keeps emergency crews available for true emergencies.

• July 2–5 & July 22–25: 11 a.m.–11 p.m.
• Until midnight on July 4 and July 24

What’s Legal

Utah only allows Class C fireworks (500g or less).
The following are always illegal:

• Cherry Bombs
• Roman Candles
• Mortars & Single-Shot Mortars
• M‑80s
• Firecrackers
• Silver Salutes
• Skyrockets / Bottle Rockets

Firework Buckets Are Back

Starting June 24, licensed West Jordan fireworks stands will offer free firework safety buckets for soaking used fireworks. One per family, while supplies last.
