Way to a Better Life Contest 2020

Registration will be limited to the first 150 registrants. Eligible contestants will have a chance to win cash and other prizes! Prize values will be determined by the number of contestants.


Also included with entry fee: cholesterol screenings, glucose testing (blood sugar), blood pressure, Body Mass Index (BMI), Body Composition Analysis (Body Fat %), Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), waist circumference measurements, nutrition and exercise challenges.

 

 

Adopting a Healthier Lifestyle:

 

In order to encourage participants to incorporate a greater balance of health and wellness, the contest focuses on adopting healthier habits that contribute to better overall health with an emphasis on healthy behaviors. We recognize that weight loss is one aspect of improving health and we encourage participants to engage in a HEALTHY weight loss program that includes a balanced nutritional diet and exercise. We STRONGLY discourage extreme dieting which includes severely limiting your caloric intake, eliminating entire food groups or using diet pills/supplements. Engaging in extreme dieting could result in disqualification from contest prizes.

 

Contest Rules:
  • The Way to a Better Life Contest will run from January 30—April 30, 2020.

  • Each contestant MUST BE 18 years of age or older before January 30, 2020.

  • Each contestant MUST provide a completed and signed entry/disclaimer.

  • Each contestant may pay his/her non-refundable fee by cash or check. All forms and payment must be received no later than January 30, 2020.

  • Contest Kickoff/Initial Weigh-In/Pre-Assessment will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2020, between 5:30 pm-7:30 pm at the Gene Fullmer Recreation Center (8015 S. 2200 W.) Contestants may come anytime during that block of time.

  • Each contestant must weigh-in biweekly beginning on Thursday, February 20, 2020 (standard track) or monthly beginning March 5, 2020 (independent track) between 5:30 pm-7:00 pm. Refer to the calendar for further details regarding weigh-ins.

  • Contestants are allowed to miss 2 weigh-ins to still be eligible for prizes. If contestants miss more than 2 weigh-ins, they are ineligible to win prizes but are still encouraged to participate.

  • Occasionally if contestants are unable to attend a Thursday weigh-in they may make an appointment for an alternate weigh-in earlier in the week with a Healthy Community staff member at the Salt Lake County Health Department’s South Redwood Public Health Center (7971 S. 1825 W.)   • The Final Weigh-In and Post-Assessment will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2020, from 5:30 pm-7:30 pm at the Gene Fullmer Recreation Center (8015 S. 2200 W.) Contestants may come anytime during that block of time.

  • If you are unable to attend the Final Weigh-In on April 30, 2020, you may make other arrangements to weigh in BEFORE the Final Weigh-In with a Healthy Community staff member at the Salt Lake County Health Department. Post-Assessments can also be completed with the exception of cholesterol and glucose testing.

  • Each contestant is encouraged to consult a physician and engage in healthy and safe weight loss. Any extreme dieting and participation without consulting a physician is strongly discouraged.

  • Body Composition/Body Fat Percentage Measurements will be taken at 4 intervals during the contest.

  • Contestants who have paid their fee, complied with all rules, and have not missed more than 2 weigh-ins are eligible to win prizes. Prize Winnings will be divided into men and women categories:

    • Weight Loss Percentage - Top 3 Males and Top 3 Female

    • Highest Point Totals - Top 3 Males and Top 3 Females with Highest Points (excludes independent track participants)

    • Top Female and Male Participants for greatest fat % lost throughout the contest.

    • Random small prize drawings will be held throughout the contest for attending weigh-ins and the contest finale.

  • Winners will be announced at the Finale on Thursday, May 14, 2020, at 6:00 pm at the Gene Fullmer Recreation Center (8015 S. 2200 W.)

Welcome to the 2020 Way to a Better Life Contest. We hope this will be a positive experience in helping you improve your health. Even though this contest is relatively short in duration we hope this contest will be a catalyst for you to make improvements to your daily eating and exercise habits. The overall goal of this contest is to help you create permanent lifestyle changes that will continue long AFTER the contest ends.
