{"id":5198,"date":"2022-09-01T16:35:48","date_gmt":"2022-09-01T22:35:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.westjordan.utah.gov\/?page_id=5198"},"modified":"2022-09-06T10:36:31","modified_gmt":"2022-09-06T16:36:31","slug":"sustainability-committee","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.westjordan.utah.gov\/sustainability-committee\/","title":{"rendered":"Sustainability Committee"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-container gb-block-container\"><div class=\"gb-container-inside\"><div class=\"gb-container-content\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-columns gb-layout-columns-2 gb-2-col-wideleft\"><div class=\"gb-layout-column-wrap gb-block-layout-column-gap-2 gb-is-responsive-column\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-column gb-block-layout-column\"><div class=\"gb-block-layout-column-inner\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>West Jordan Sustainability Committee<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The West Jordan Sustainability Committee advises the Mayor and City Council on policies pertaining to sustainable environmental practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Members of the Sustainability Committee meet the third Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m., often via Zoom, to discuss issues like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Waste reduction\/recycling<\/li><li>Water conservation<\/li><li>Air quality and open space<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The Sustainability Committee operates the West Jordan Community Market, the first Tuesday of each month from 5-8 p.m., at Ron Wood Park, May through September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Get Involved<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyone with interest in serving on the Sustainability Committee is welcome to submit an&nbsp;interest form, which will be considered as openings on the committee occur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>West Jordan Sustainability Resources:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westjordan.utah.gov\/public-works\/garbage-and-recycling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">West Jordan Recycling<\/a><br>Information on recycling in West Jordan, including what can be recycled curbside and where to drop of glass recycling.<br><br><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westjordan.utah.gov\/public-works\/water\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">West Jordan Water Conservation<\/a><br>Information on water conservation in West Jordan, including information on waterwise rebates and Localscapes.<br><br><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westjordan.utah.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/new-2021-Residential-Landscape-Guidelines.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">West Jordan Waterwise Landscaping Guidelines<\/a><br>The City of West Jordan\u2019s official landscaping guidelines for business and members of the community.<br><br><a href=\"https:\/\/conservationgardenpark.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jordan Valley Conservation Garden Park<\/a><br>Located in West Jordan, the Conservation Garden Park showcases waterwise landscaping examples and provides interactive educational exhibits and classes.<br><br><a href=\"https:\/\/air.utah.gov\/forecast.php?id=slc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Utah Air Quality Forecast<\/a><br>The Utah Air Quality Forecast shares pollution estimates for the coming 72 hours. It includes how air quality may impact people with health conditions and notifies the public of voluntary or mandatory actions (ex. Carpooling or woodburning).<br><br><a href=\"http:\/\/rideuta.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mass Transit<\/a><br>Learn more about riding mass transit in West Jordan via the Utah Transit Authority.<br><br><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westjordan.utah.gov\/calendar\/event\/bike-with-the-mayor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bike with the Mayor<\/a><br>Mayor Dirk Burton is an avid cyclist who enjoys commuting using his, feet, a bicycle and mass transit. Come Bike with the Mayor!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeutah.org\/\">Bike Utah<\/a><br>Bike Utah collaborates with all levels of government, organizations, agencies, businesses, and the general public to develop active transportation plans, educate children and adults, increase safety through legislation, and improve quality of life for residents.<br><br><a href=\"https:\/\/cleartheairchallenge.org\/?fbclid=IwAR0Rs3pxnfhhZ22v3yOdhIv5RyHcMKUK45R2vv2lDdNb6tZs58Ihfa-313g\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Clear the Air Challenge<\/a><br>The Clear the Air Challenge is a month long competition encouraging the reduction of vehicle emissions by choosing alternative methods of transportation using\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.travelwise.utah.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TravelWise<\/a>\u00a0strategies.<br><br><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rockymountainpower.net\/savings-energy-choices\/blue-sky-renewable-energy.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rocky Mountain Power Blue Sky Renewable Energy Program<\/a><br>Blue Sky\u00a0allows customers to match their\u00a0energy\u00a0usage with the purchase of\u00a0renewable energy\u00a0credits.
