July 2021

Happy Independence Day! As we celebrate this great holiday, I ask that we all look beyond the barbecues, fireworks, and events. This is a day to celebrate our freedom, our history, and the love we all have for our country.

Independence Day is a celebration for all Americans, regardless our age, the color of our skin, or our level of education. This is a time reflect on the momentous sacrifices made by those who fought for our freedom and honor those who continue to fight for us to keep us safe.

The freedom we celebrate today wouldn’t be possible without the great leaders of the past, the leaders of the present, and the leaders of the future. Let’s continue to make where we live a better place for our children, and for our children’s children.

We live in a country unlike any other. As I review our history, I am impressed at the magnitude of events that make us the free country we are today. The father of our country, George Washington said “Liberty, when it begins to take root, is a plant of rapid growth.”

This still rings true today. A root is strong, supportive, and a source of life – much like liberty.

Let’s celebrate freedom to its fullest! I’m proud to be an American and a West Jordan resident!

Sincerely,

Mayor Dirk Burton
