New Official Boundaries and Buckets for your Firework Celebration

The West Jordan Fire Department (WJFD) has expanded the fireworks boundaries this year! More residents will be able to light fireworks near their own homes than ever before. See the map on our fire page.

Restricted Areas

  • Within 200 feet of canals, creeks, or washes.
  • City parks (unless you have a professional permit to display fireworks)
  • Everywhere west of Bacchus Highway/SR-111

Pyros Beware: How to Stay Safe

Thanks to West Jordan Fire Department, The Home Depot, Lowe’s, and Paul Davis Restoration, you can pick up a FREE water bucket when you purchase fireworks in West Jordan City this year. Buckets will be available starting June 24, at firework stands and tents located in West Jordan. While supplies last.

Each 5-gallon bucket will have safety instructions to help reduce injury and fire risks–just fill the bucket halfway with water to smother all used fireworks. (Limit one bucket per household.)

Firework Safety Tips

  • Booms and brews don’t mix. Stay sober while lighting fireworks.
  • Have water (like in your free water bucket!) or an extinguisher nearby.
  • Let fireworks cool completely, and douse them in water or an extinguisher before putting them in the garbage can. A used firework may continue to burn.
  • Fireworks don’t always behave as labeled. Keep a close eye on the fireworks and crowds to keep everyone safe.

When You Can Buy Fireworks

  • June 24 through July 25
  • December 29 through December 31
  • 2 days before and on Chinese New Year

When You Can Light Fireworks

  • July 2–5 and July 22–25: Between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m.
    • On July 4 and July 24, discharge is allowed until 12:00 midnight
  • December 31: From 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. on January 1
  • Chinese New Year’s Eve: From 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. the following day

What is Legal?

In Utah, only “Class C” fireworks are legal. Usually what is available in the stores or tents near you is legal. These fireworks have 500g or less of pyrotechnic powder.

If you cross the border into a neighboring state to purchase fireworks, buyer beware: they may not be legal in Utah, and using them could result in prosecution.

These and other non-Class C fireworks are always illegal in Utah:

  • Cherry Bombs
  • Roman Candles
  • Single Shot mortars
  • M-80s
  • Mortars
  • Silver Salutes
  • Firecrackers
  • Skyrockets/Bottle Rockets
