Mayor’s Message November 2023

I am excited to share with you the incredible progress, like the opening of a brand new Home Depot on the West side, we’re making in our vibrant city! Our community is growing, and with that growth comes a set of exciting opportunities and, of course, a few challenges. I am here to discuss our ongoing efforts to manage these challenges, improve the quality of life for all residents, and ensure that our city continues to thrive. One of our most pressing challenges is transportation. Boy, do I understand the frustrations that come with traffic congestion and lengthy commutes in our city. That’s why we’ve invested in, and are working with the State, on a series of regional transportation projects aimed at enhancing travel efficiency and easing your daily commute. Here are some of the key initiatives:

  • 9000 South Widening between I-15 and 1300 West: This project is already underway and will significantly improve traffic flow to I-15 in this busy corridor. Learn more and sign up for updates
  • 9000 South Western Extension to U-111: Another project currently underway, this extension will open new routes and make travel smoother for new development on the west side.
  • 8600 South Bridge over Mountain View Corridor: This bridge project will alleviate congestion and improve connectivity. It’s already in progress. Learn more and sign up for updates.
  • 8600 South Extension to U-111: Starting late winter, we’re expanding 8600 South to U-111 to further enhance accessibility and ease the traffic burden on 7800 and 9000 South.
  • 7800 South Widening near Mountain View Corridor: Late winter will mark the beginning of this widening project, which will help reduce bottlenecks and delays near Mountain View Corridor. Sign up for future communication related to this project.
  • 1300 West Widening between 9000 South and 7800 South: Also starting in winter 2024, this widening project will improve traffic flow in this vital area. Learn more and sign up for updates

Transportation is a key issue in this city, but our work is not limited to roads and bridges. We’re also committed to creating spaces where you can relax, play, and connect with your community. Our parks projects are designed to do just that:

  • Bingham Creek Trail Development: Join us for a public meeting on November 8, to discuss the exciting developments coming to Bingham Creek Trail. We’re making it even better for your outdoor enjoyment. Learn more about the public meeting.
  • Expansive Wheels Space at Ron Wood Park: We’re currently working on this project to create a fantastic space for skateboarders, Bicycles, Rollerblades, Scooters, and even wheelchairs! Learn more information and sign up for updates.
  • Visioning and Master Plan for Veterans Memorial Park: Veterans Memorial Park has long served as the hub of our community. We’re planning to make sure this vibrant, open space meets the needs of our growing community for decades to come.
  • Arts and Community Center Building: Starting in Spring 2024, we’ll begin construction on this new center, meant to be a hub for creativity, gathering, and community building. Sign up for future communication related to this project.
  • Soccer Fields at Ron Wood Park: Spring 2024 will see the development of soccer fields at Ron Wood Park, providing more opportunities for fields of play for our young.

Our city’s future is bright, and together, we’ll make it even better. Thank you for being a vital part of our community.
