Peer Review for Fire Protection Systems

Peer Review Requirement

In accordance with Section 104.7.2 of the International Fire Code, the West Jordan Fire Marshal’s Office requires a “technical opinion and report” (peer review) for plans involving the installation and/or modification of automatic fire protection systems, fire alarm and detection systems and related equipment, fire pumps and related fuel tanks, jockey pumps, controllers and related equipment, and the installation, modification, or removal from service of a standpipe system.

Exceptions to Required Peer Reviews

  1. Installation of fire hydrants and underground fire protection supply lines.
  2. Pre-engineered kitchen hood suppression systems.
  3. Installation or relocation of less than 20 sprinkler heads.
  4. Installation or relocation of less than 5 alarm/notification appliances.

Approved Third-Party Plan Review Professionals

The following companies and/or individuals have been approved by the West Jordan Fire Marshal’s Office as design professionals who can conduct third-party plan reviews.

These companies or individuals cannot review plans or drawings developed by their own firm or representatives. Other companies or individuals not on this list may be used only with prior approval from the Fire Marshal’s Office.

Plan Submission and Approval Process

Please submit plans to the company of your choice. When their review and written comments are completed, the West Jordan Fire Marshal’s Office will electronically stamp a set of plans and return them by email.

Please have a copy of the approved and stamped electronic plans on site at all times.

Payment will also be accepted online. Once plans are reviewed and approved, staff will reach out with the permit number so payment can be made.
