Mayor’s Message – March 2026

Hello West Jordan!

While February finally brought us a few good storms, Utah is still facing a record‑low‑snowfall winter and that means every drop counts as we head into spring. Utah state water experts are reminding us that until Mother Nature keeps the snow coming, we likely won’t see near a normal snowpack.

Although our snow water storage has declined this year and strong conservation will be essential, there is some good news. Our reservoirs are in better shape than usual for this time of year — about 67% full — because our community has already been doing such a great job conserving water. That makes it possible for us to lean on stored water this summer. In other words, we’re tapping into last year’s water, thanks to our community spirit.

If you’re looking for simple, everyday ways to conserve, SlowTheFlow.org has fantastic indoor and outdoor water‑saving tips and offers regular updates on statewide conditions. It’s one of the best places to stay informed. Small changes at home can make a big splash.

Here in West Jordan, the city is doing its part too. We are following all state watering guidelines, and we’re converting many low‑use grassy areas into natural landscapes and walkways. These changes not only save water they save maintenance costs and help create more usable, attractive public spaces. We’re updating our water plan to make sure we’re planning responsibly well into the future. Like you, the city will continue to “walk the walk” when it comes to conservation, not just “water the talk.”

Our incredible neighbor Conservation Garden Park, located right here in our city, offers classes, events, tours, and expert landscaping advice, many of them completely free. When you are ready to transition your yard to something more water‑wise, this is a great place to get inspired. Like me, you’ll grow to love it.

Thank you for not watering down this advice…Together, we can make smarter choices today that keep West Jordan flowing tomorrow….no pressure, just good stewardship!

Sincerely,

Mayor Dirk Burton
