NPOST Testing
The City of West Jordan requires a passing Peace Officer Entrance Examination score for Non-Certified Candidates. This exam is no longer required by Utah POST, but we use it as a replacement for the Police Department’s written test. The NPOST consists of four timed sections: math, reading comprehension, grammar, and incident report writing. A passing score is 70% or higher in each section of the test (Not an overall score). It may take approximately 4 weeks to receive your test results.
What To Expect With The NPOST Test
Math
The math component consists of 20 questions, which are to be completed in 20 minutes. This section does not have any scientific math questions (algebraic or geometry); the questions consist of general math and financial math equations.
Reading Comprehension
The reading comprehension section consists of 25 questions, which are to be completed in 25 minutes. This section requires the candidate to read a series of short essays and then choose the best answer(s) based on the information contained in the short essays.
Grammar
The grammar section consists of 20 questions, which are to be completed in 15 minutes. This section requires the candidate to read several sentences and paragraphs, all of which contain misspelled words and improper punctuation. The candidate is required to identify the misspelled words and improper punctuation.
Incident Report Writing
The incident report writing section consists of 10 questions, which are to be completed in 15 minutes. The candidates are tested on their ability to write a clear and concise report based on facts they are given. Grammar and punctuation are tested in this section as well.

FAQ
Can I retake the NPOST if I do not pass or would like to try for a better score?
Yes! You can take the test as many times as you need or would like. Once you have a passing score of 70% or higher in each of the 4 categories that is all we require (not the overall score)
If I retake the exam and get a lower score which score do I use?
Submit to us the best score you have and ensure it is 70% or higher in each of the 4 categories. You don’t need to submit the most recent test, just whichever is the highest score as long as it is passing.
I am an out-of-state candidate, where can I take this test?
There are many local university testing centers that offer the tests. Simply call one of your local university or college campus testing centers and see if they can administer the test for you. We require the test to be graded from Standard as the results must be certified. The results cannot be graded from a specific agency or testing center.
Do the NPOST results expire? I took the test a long time ago and need to get a copy of the results.
We would recommend reaching out to the testing facility in which you took the test to see if you can get a copy from them. If not, you can also attempt to contact Standard and Associates Inc. at 800-367-6919 and they may be able to assist in looking up historic test information.
